July in DC

I haven't blogged in almost a year. :-( It has been a busy year, that is for sure. I am going to try and update this blog now as much as I can in the coming weeks to make up for the 8 months I missed.

First up: DC...July was kind of...crazy. Ended up working in DC for a month, but luckily Jon and Cache were able to come out and visit me while I was there. One thing about DC in July is that it is BEYOND HOT! Holy smokes...I don't think I've ever had to deal with temperatures like that in my life! Each morning I would walk to work before it got too hot, but every afternoon I ended up taking the Metro because it was normally in excess of 100 degrees (plus the humidity).

While Jon was there we were able to accomplish a lot. We were able to visit with some friends and see lots of stuff! My hotel was less than a block away from the White House and therefore also extremely close the National Mall. One of the things I really enjoyed was being able to go run at night through all the monuments. It was so pretty with everything lit up! I also was able to see my first firefly...which was also kind of exciting.

One great thing about DC is that all the museums are completely free! While I was at work Jon and Cache would walk down to the museums and look at all the cool stuff. The last weekend there we got on a ferry and made it out to Mt. Vernon to check out George Washington's digs. It was extremely beautiful and there was TONS of land and lots to see...unfortunately that day was not one of Cache's favorites and so we were not able to go into GW's house...but we did see everything else they had to offer.

I LOVED being in the city and being able to walk to work through all the cool buildings each morning. Some days during lunch I would go and wander, always finding some sort of historical landmark. BUT I was also SOOO excited to be able to come home and be with my family again!!
